  1. Provost Scott Strobel provided information for faculty working out-of-state during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  2. Vice Provost for Research Michael Crair and Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Lynn Cooley provided an updated commitment to the safety of all trainees during Phase 3 of research reactivation on campus.  

  3. Vice Provost for Research Michael Crair anounced Phase 3 of Yale’s Research Reactivation, which starts on August 24th. Phase 3 will have similar restrictions on research as Phase 2, although certain undergraduates, new graduate students and long-term visitors are eligible to perform on-campus research if they are part of an approved COVID-19 safety protocol.

  4. Dean Marvin Chun and Dean Tamar Gendler announced a policy change to undergraduate employment and research effective for the fall term.

  5. Provost Scott Strobel announced campus contingency planning for a limited and phased expansion of on-campus research and library services in June and provided information on the planning for the fall semester.

  9. Elias Lolis, Faculty Director of Postdoctoral Affairs and Professor of Pharmacology, sent a message to postdoctoral and postgraduate researchers and students.

  10. Scott Strobel, Provost, announces the charging of two working groups to develop the vision for a new physical science and engineering building.

  11. Scott Strobel, Provost, announces the appointment of Michael Crair, PhD, as Yale’s next vice provost for research effective April 1, 2020, and new oversight of the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning by Pericles Lewis.

  12. Peter Schiffer, Vice Provost for Research, announces that Yale has made more than $4 million in new investments in core facilities supporting science and engineering research, and also filled two new staff positions to support the cores.

  13. Michael J. Donoghue, Sterling Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, will replace Oswald J. Schmitz, Oastler Professor of Population and Community Ecology, as Director of the Yale Institute for Biospheric Studies (YIBS) beginning January 1, 2019.

  14. Peter Schiffer, Vice Provost for Research, announces initial implementations for the science priorities approved by President Salovey. Immediate actions will focus on the recommended cross-cutting priorities and represent substantial commitments by the university to improve internal funding for graduate students to reduce funding pressure on external research grants and to upgrade and refresh existing core facilities.

  15. David Bercovici and Liza Comita have been announced as co-directors of the Yale Center for Natural Carbon Capture.
