As part of research reactivation and our commitment to adhere to public health guidelines, Yale will continue to provide disposable surgical face masks to laboratory researchers at least through December 2020. While recognizing that health care workers remain the highest priority, we are working closely with our partners in Yale Purchasing and monitoring critical supply chains to secure enough personal protective equipment (PPE) to meet the additional needs of campus researchers in specialty research environments.
Non-Laboratory, Office-Based Researchers
Everyone is required to wear a face mask while on campus and maintain 6 ft of physical separation. All people authorized to return to campus during Phase 2 of Yale’s research reactivation will receive a Return to Yale Cloth Mask Kit that contains three reusable cloth masks, hand sanitizer, surface disinfecting wipes, a lanyard, and an ID badge holder. Cloth masks are appropriate for most on-campus environments, but not laboratory research environments. To authorize office-based research, you are required to be registered through Workday or Integrator and follow posted guidance. Your dean will convey if a registration in Integrator is required for office work.
Laboratory-Based Researchers not Involving in-person Human Subjects Work
If your work is laboratory-based and you have not yet received authorization to return to campus as part of Phase 1 reactivation, the faculty principal investigator for your laboratory needs to apply for authorization through EHS Integrator. Upon authorization to return to campus, investigators will receive an initial allotment of university-supplied face masks, disinfecting wipes, and hand sanitizer for your research group. If your faculty principal investigator requested and received PPE for your research group as part of authorized Phase 1 research reactivation, you will automatically receive 50 additional disposable surgical masks plus one Return to Yale Cloth Mask Kit per person in the coming weeks. No additional action is necessary on your part for this resupply, and Phase 1 research authorization automatically carries over to Phase 2. We are asking that all individuals use the lanyard to display their Yale ID to allow those that are not part of our campus community to be recognized as such. The cloth masks are meant for use in building common areas, not laboratory research environments. No additional lab-sized canisters of surface disinfectant wipes will be sent at this time, but we are working on a solution to provide reusable spray bottles for disinfectant.
The additional PPE kits will be shipped starting on July 20th using the delivery or pick up information specified in your original Phase 1 order in June. We are not able to set specific delivery appointments at this time. If you would like to change from delivery to pick up, this option is available daily at 344 Winchester Avenue and can be arranged by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. If you chose the delivery option the first time, or if you switch to delivery now, you will receive an e-mail letting you know when your order is ready to be picked up.
If you have lab members who were approved to return under Phase 1 but have yet to request PPE, please be sure to submit these requests via https://ypps.yale.edu/returntoyale.
