Guidance in response to the federal government shutdown
On Saturday, January 31, 2026, the U.S. government entered a partial shutdown. Below is information and updates, shared by the Office of Research Compliance, most relevant to members of the Yale research community who may be impacted by this shutdown. If you have immediate concerns or specific award questions, please reach out to OSP Help at osphelp@yale.edu.
The current outlook is as follows:
Duration Likelihood & Impact: While a shutdown has begun, we expect it to be short in duration. At this time, we do not anticipate it will have a significant impact on research operations within the federal agencies that manage and support our work. We are mindful that this could have some residual impact on the recovery efforts still ongoing from the prior shutdown. While we hope this is not the case, we are monitoring the situation to mitigate any impact. Please share this within your school/department.
Our next steps are:
Town Hall: If the shutdown persists into the middle of this week, we will host a Research Admin Town Hall on Wednesday or Thursday to discuss specific operational impacts and answer your questions.
Thank you for your patience and the work you do to keep our research community moving forward.
