Low Brass

Brede Eschliman, Section Leader

Welcome to the wonderful world of the Low Brass! We've got up to four times the fun and versatility of all the other sections! Wow! So don't let the section's name deceive you. We make room for souixzas (aka tubas), horns (aka French horns and mellophones), keyboards, and even accordions. And we're talented, funny, gorgeous, and exceptionally smart. So if you want to know what hangin' out with kids like us is like (and we know you want to), feel free to read below and learn about our different subgroups.

Siouxzas
Siouxzaphones, or siouxzas for short, have been known to set their instruments on fire and do pushups with their horns on their backs. Needless to say, they're out of control. Occasionally they are out of their shirts and pants as well, but that's a story for a different time. In addition, they wield a ginormous, uncurled siouxzaphone, called the Überphone. It's ridonkulous. But don't worry about the other sections being jealous. When it comes to beautiful instruments, not everyone can be as well endowed as the siouxzas here at Yale. It's a special privilege and a special group. Become one of them and you'll see.

Horns
Be it a mellowphone or a curvaceous french horn, these guys and gals really know how to blow. Whether they're pouring out that graceful countermelody in "Down the Field" or punching out the offbeats of "Bulldog," the horns give the YPMB that sweet phat sound you can't get from anything else. Now their instruments may not be as large as others in the section, but this should not be seen as indicating a lesser degree of awesomeness. After all, no other section can brag about having the melody in Madonna's "Like a Virgin." Plus, they can sit back and chillax as they watch all their friends lug instruments that are a substantial percentage of their body weights. It's a good life at the top of the pyramid of sound. Kick it with them and enjoy it.
