Meeting on Sustainable Development in Panama -- On
April 23, 2004, the City of Knowledge Foundation,
the United States Peace Corps, the International Cooperative
Biodiversity Groups (ICBG), and the Native Species
Reforestation Project (PRORENA) hosted the 2nd Meeting
on Sustainable Development in Panama. The meeting
featured presentations by government agencies, NGOs,
and private companies working in the broad field of
Environment and Development in the republic of Panama.

Introduction
to plantation establishment and controlled burning
-- On February 11-13, 2004, Panama's National Environmental
Authority's Center for Sustainable Development (CEDESO),
Panama City's Pulaski Battalion of Forest Fire Fighters,
and the PRORENA Project hosted a 3-day workshop on controlled
burning and plantation establishment in Río Hato,
Coclé. Twenty-seven university students, local
landowners, and PRORENA staff and collaborators participated
in the seminar. |

Annual Native Species Reforestation Meeting: A symposium
on financing reforestation in Latin
America
-- On November 21, 2003, PRORENA hosted a symposium
to explore the challenges and opportunites for financing
reforestation efforts in Latin America. Speakers included

Annual Native Species Reforestation Meeting: Silviculture
and management of native trees -- On November
15, 2002, PRORENA, the Smithsonian Tropical Research
Institute, and Ecoforest (Panama) S.A. hosted a 1-day
meeting to discuss the state of knowledge of native
species silviculture and management in Central America.
Speakers included Gerardo Budowski of the United Nations
University of Peace, Richard Condit of the Smithsonian

Annual Native Species Reforestation Meeting: Reforestation
in Panama --
On November 22, 2001, PRORENA and the Smithsonian Tropical
Research Institute hosted the first annual Native Species
Reforestation Meeting. Presenters included Adriana Sautu
of the PRORENA Project, Mark Ashton of the Yale School
of Forestry & Environmental Studies, Iliana Armien
of Futuro Forestal S.A., and Arturo Cerezo of the Panama
Canal Authority. |
