Search terms match whole words rather than substrings

 

You may search the online catalog by specific fields, or for a catalog number. Searches are case-insensitive; by default, any string in a field that contains a term renders that record a match. For example, asking for "margin" will match "Margin," "marginal," "albomarginata," and so forth. You can also ask that terms be matched in their entirety. Prior to searching, characters that are neither numbers or letters are stripped away, and single-character terms discarded (except for catalog number). Terms are and-ed together in the search. Additional Notes on the Data

The entire holdings of the Ichthyology collection are available online.

    CatalogNumber. In the Mammalogy collection, taxon lots are catalogued with a one to six digit number (e.g., YPM 10219), occasionally followed by an upper case letter (e.g., YPM 10219A).

    TaxonName. Any of the latinized names that have been applied to the taxon lot.

    AuthorName. The author and/or date of publication for an applied taxon name.

    HigherRanks. The family, order, and/or class of the most recently applied taxon name.

    Locality. A composite of the country, state (equivalent), county (or equivalent), place, and latitude & longitude, as available. Latitude & longitude are ordinarily given to the nearest minute.

    CollectorDate. The name of the collector(s) and the collection date(s).

    CommonName. Common name of the most recently applied taxon name, largely following "Fishes of the World" (Nelson, 1984, 1996).

    OtherAttributes. Other specimen attributes that are specific to the holdings of the Mammalogy collection. A variety of keywords (in italics) that you might wish to use to limit searches are given below. Those listed under "OTHER" are available on the search form as pull-down menu options.

    • SEX: male, female
    • STAGE: young, adult
    • PREPARATION: cast, model, mounted, skin, skeleton, pickled
    • OTHER: OSTEO = osteological material; PICKLED = pickled material; undetermined = undetermined material, including specimens specifically indicated as such, and/or specimens determined no further than to the family level.
