Yale Invertebrate Paleontology - Stratigraphic Inventory

Invertebrate Palentology - Online Catalog

Enter any terms (e.g., Ammonoidea, Cretaceous)

This search form allows you to query an inventory database for the stratigraphic collection of invertebrate fossils from the Invertebrate Paleontology division. One search field is available for all queries, and can be used for all known geographic, geologic and taxonomic keywords for each drawer in the stratigraphic collection. All names are spelled out to avoid ambiguity. Searches may include multiple keywords, with an implicit "and" implied in all searches.

Additional Notes on the Data

Approximately 6000 drawers have been surveyed for their respective content. Geologic age includes Periods and Epochs (e.g., Cambrian, Eocene) and stratigraphic units (e.g., Hoyt, Parker), however, modifiers such as Upper, Lower, Formation or Member are excluded. Geography includes country, state and unique place names (e.g., Anticosti Island). An estimate of drawer quantity (e.g., lots and total items) is included. Taxonomy (including percent of drawer content) includes the following terms:

Ammonoidea, Annelida, Archaeocyatha, Asterozoa, Bivalvia, Blastoidea, Brachiopoda, Bryozoa, Bulk, Chelicerata, Coleoida, Crinoidea, Crustacea, Cystoidea, Echinoidea, Edrioasteroidea, Empty, Foraminifera, Fusulinina, Gastropoda, Graptolithina, Hydrozoa, Incertae Sedis (i.e., Conularida, Conodonta, etc.), Insecta, Misc. Mollusca (i.e., Mono- & Polyplacophora), Nautiloidea, Ostracoda, Plantae, Porifera, Radilolaria, Receptaculites, Rugosa, Scaphapoda, Scleractinia, Scyphozoa, Stromatoporoidea, Tabulata, Trace Fossil, Trilobita, Vertebrata

Three estimates of the quantity of material are presented. Lot or (specimen lot) refers to the number of unique taxonomic units per collecting event within each drawer. Items refer to the number of individual specimens for the entire drawer. The quantity of each taxonomic group is expressed in a percent following the taxonomy (e.g., Crinoidea (50) Brachiopoda (30) Bryozoa (20)).

Accession numbers refer to a file of information for each collection with a drawer. Accession files include the collector, collection date, any supporting documentation (e.g., field notes) and the acquisition history for a collection. We have attempted to resolve all accession questions that pertain to the stratigraphic collection.
