CSJE332b: Oral History / New Haven History
NHOHP Director Andy Horowitz is again offering a course about oral history in the college seminar program. All of the students design and pursue oral history research projects about New Haven. The class was last offered in 2005, and earned rave reviews:
“It is an extremely rewarding experience and a unique way of looking at history and the New Haven community around us. It was one of my best experiences while at Yale.”
“I walked away from this class feeling like I really had ownership over my research. The interviews connected me with my research topic on an emotional level and was at once more challenging and interesting as I tried to extract academic meaning from personal narratives. Using New Haven as a case study also made interviews easy to relate to, and easy to carry out. This is the only history course I know that incorporates practical learning with academic learning.”
