Nandini Sundar
Professor of Sociology, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi

Nandini Sundar is Professor of Sociology, Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University, and Co-editor, Contributions to Indian Sociology. She is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Yale Agrarian Studies Program.

She has previously worked at the Centre for the Study of Law and Governance, Jawaharlal Nehru University, the Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi and the University of Edinburgh.

Dr. Sundar research is on the tribal areas of central India, principally in the state of Chhattisgarh, and has included community forestry and Joint Forest Management (JFM) in India.

She serves on the Board of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Environment and Development (CISED), and the Society for the Promotion of Wastelands Development (SPWD). Her teaching and research interests include political sociology, the sociology of law and human rights, the sociology of work, development theory and practice, and social history.

She is currently working on a book on adivasi politics and identity in contemporary India, as well as editing a volume on laws, policies and practices in the state of Jharkhand. A recently initiated project is on production and consumption in Twenty-first Century India.
