Yale Forest Forum

On the 10th of December 2002, the Yale Forest Forum held a held a Forest Forum entitled: Forestry, Communities and Sustainable Management - Can local involvement contribute to sustainable forestry in the Tropics?

The Forum discussed the benefits and challenges of the community forest approach in the Tropics, with a presentation on community concessions in Guatemala. The Community Forestry Concessions in the Petén region of the country are an excellent example that demonstrates communal involvement in forestry project planning and implementation. The Concessions have led to many environmental, economic, and social benefits.

Mr. Spencer Ortiz
