Mary Tyrrell Director - Program on Private Forests, Program on Forest Health Mary Tyrrell became Executive Director of the Global Institute of Sustainable Forestrythe Global Institute in June 2004, after serving as Associate Director for a year. She is also the Director for the Global Institute's Program on Private Forests, and Program on Forest Health. Her main interests are forest ecology, natural history, and conservation of forestlands. Before joining YFF in July 2000, she was the Program Director at FES' Center for Coastal and Watershed Systems where she managed applied research programs and community outreach activities. Prior to 1995, when she launched into a new career working for the environment, she spent many years in international electronics manufacturing management. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Mill River Watershed Association, the Land Care Committee of the Connecticut and Massachusetts Northeast Organic Farming Association, and serves on the Town of Hamden Natural Resource and Open Space Commission. After spending her life in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, she moved to Connecticut in 1995 and remains a dyed-in-the-wool New Englander. She is a fledgling gardener, having recently planted her first organic vegetable garden at her new home in Hamden. She loves hiking in the mountains, and walking in the woods. |
