2008 Berkeley Grads Revive an Old Tradition

An old and lovely tradition was revived by the Class of 2008 when the class presented Berkeley Divinity School with a highly meaningful gift.

At the Evensong service that immediately preceded the Senior Dinner, Dean Joseph Britton received from the graduating class a new altar book and Gospel Book for use at St. Luke's Chapel. This thoughtfulness is meant to provide the students who follow the Berkeley graduates with key resources for worship. "The fact that the previous books were well-loved but threadbare, " Dean Britton added, "demonstrate to me the vitality of worship here at Berkeley. These books will open the hearts and minds of new generations of Episcopal students as they prepare to be spiritual leaders."

The Berkeley grads joined the Yale Divinity School Class of `08 in presenting YDS with a total class gift of $11,000 in scholarship funds to further enable studies for students who have the intellectual and spiritual call to study, but who need assistance to make their dreams a reality.

Dean Britton remarked that "in combination, these two thoughtful actions mark this year's class as being particularly generous and foresightful to the needs of others."

"Ecumenical engagement isn't an idea at Yale Divinity School: it is an everyday reality. Together we are building a composite image of the God who continually confounds and amazes us and calls us out to that other shore, beyond ourselves."
