National Advisory Council

The National Advisory Council is composed of a diverse group of lay and ordained persons who meet twice a year to reflect on the direction and evolution of the seminary. A fall meeting is part of the annual Convocation on campus, and a spring meeting is held in New York. Appointed by the Dean, the members serve as an advisory body that also represents the School to the wider church, promoting it as a unique resource for training clergy and lay leaders. In making appointments, the Dean looks for persons who are both committed to the church and who come from a variety of professional backgrounds in order to achieve invigorating and fruitful discussions. The Council considers such questions as: What are the current leadership needs of the church? How can the School can make most advantage of its relationship to Yale University to meet those needs? And what particular resources and programs should the School develop in order to respond to those opportunities?

"I knew that I wanted to come to a place where I could deepen my grasp of the fundamentals of Christian religion, while also continuing my ecumenical emphasis."

"Berkeley Divinity School is part of a larger ecumencial community that offers a great combination of academic learning and theology. What I love most is the integration of community and worship, which includes faculty, students and staff. Berkeley offers the opportunity to experience a wonderful model of formation in communion and in community."
