Without community, there is no liberation - Audre Lorde
Mission
The mission of the Afro American Cultural Center at Yale is to develop process, functions and attributes throughout Yale and the City of New Haven, that are reciprocal and interactive, resulting in a sense of community, cultural vision, competence, efficacy, permanence, spiritual well-being and integrity.
The objectives of the Cultural Center are:

* Establish an effective structure for the presentation of Afro-American Cultural Center's program, projects, and activities.
* Provide a "house" where Black students can recover a feeling of home through a shared sense of family and belonging.
* Create an atmosphere to foster deep knowledge and high regard for African, Afro Caribbean and Afro American history, arts, letters, politics and popular culture.
* Maximize the academic achievement, personal development and leadership skills of Black students.
* Promote the lines of communication and collaboration between the Yale and New Haven communities while developing an environment of social action and increased linkage with the world wide Black community.
